Maui Family Photography That Tells a Real Story

When the Benson family reached out for a Maui family photoshoot, I knew it was going to be something special. As a local Maui photographer specializing in candid family photography, my goal is always to capture honest, heartwarming moments—photos that tell your story just as you are.

 

For the Bensons, this was more than a typical session. It was one of their last vacations as a family of five before big life changes begin—college, missions, and the next season of life. We captured it all: the laughter, the togetherness, and the beautiful in-between moments they’ll treasure forever.

 

 

Meet the Bensons: Real, Loving, and Full of Personality

Rich and Jaime are devoted parents who believe in love, laughter, and something they affectionately call Forced Family Fun. Their three kids—Kate, Davis, and Brett—each brought something unique to this session.

• Kate (17) is thoughtful, smart, and a deep thinker. She dreams big, loves the sciences and soccer, and is the kind of big sister everyone wants. A little shy at first, but warm and sincere.

• Davis (15) is full of energy and always on the move. He’s passionate about sports, especially football and track, and he lit up the beach with his adventurous spirit.

• Brett (12) is chatty, spirited, and incredibly social. She’s into gymnastics, shopping, and all things fun. Her playful personality brought so much light to the shoot!

Relaxed, Candid, and Coastal: A Maui Beach Session to Remember

We picked a quiet Maui beach location where the family could feel relaxed, move freely, and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. Jaime mentioned they were drawn to the casual, candid photography on my Instagram—and that’s exactly the approach we took.

We kept things simple, focusing on:

• Natural interactions and real smiles

• Individual portraits that highlight each child’s personality

• A loving couples shot of Jaime and Rich

• Group shots full of genuine joy

They weren’t into “creative” poses or overly adventurous shots (no piggyback rides here!)—and honestly, it was perfect. The photos reflect who they are: fun-loving, grounded, and full of heart.

 

Why This Session Meant So Much

In Jaime’s words: “This will be one of our last trips before Kate goes to college… I love that we’ll have a trip of just our 5.”

That sentiment is exactly why I do what I do. This session was about more than just capturing faces—it was about capturing this moment in time. A family on the edge of a big transition, soaking up the sun, sand, and togetherness before life shifts again.
