As a local Maui photographer, I’ve had the incredible opportunity to document countless magical moments. But one session that truly stands out is a heartwarming surprise proposal at Kanaha Beach in Kahului, Maui.

 

A Love Story from Idaho to Maui

Meet Austin and Ashley, a sweet couple who have been sharing their lives for two wonderful years. Originally from the serene landscapes of Idaho, they’re both nature lovers with a deep appreciation for the outdoors. One of their favorite activities is walking their adorable one-year-old chocolate lab, Smokey.

 

When Austin decided to propose in Maui, he knew he wanted a location that reflected their love for nature and tranquility. He chose the stunning Kanaha Beach, known for its soft sands, dramatic skies, and peaceful atmosphere—an ideal backdrop for this unforgettable moment.

 

The Proposal: Candid, Joyful, and Full of Heart

I was honored to be Austin’s partner-in-crime in planning this Maui surprise proposal photoshoot. The moment Ashley said “yes” was pure magic—filled with emotion, laughter, and love. As a Maui engagement photographer, moments like these are why I love what I do.

Following the proposal, we transitioned into a fun, relaxed engagement session. Austin and Ashley were naturals in front of the camera—even though they described themselves as shy! They weren’t afraid to get a little sandy or wet, and even enjoyed a few adventurous poses, including a playful piggyback ride that had them both laughing under the golden Hawaiian sunset.
